Who is Right?
My blog account says that I have 12 posts but all that I can see is 11 so here I go. I thought about quitting after English 129 was done but now I have decided to keep this process going and hopefully in the end be a better "business writer". Which as of now I'm not really sure what business writing is? All I know is that the information I put into this blog I would have no problem telling or letting someone else read it. This is an area for my personal expression and for me writing about my highs/lows of the day helps me release my anger and joy!

Almost done...
When I left work yesterday I was sure that when I came back I would be the one doing all of the laundry that was left from yesterdays check-outs. Sure enough there it all was waiting for me...
I wasn't impressed and the worst part was that the housekeeper on didn't have any help and so I was also the housekeeper for a couple of hours. Knowing that if I didn't help her with the rooms that I would be doing them all by myself after she was off. Sure enough as soon as 3 o'clock came and she was gone I was the one left to make-up the rooms. In total I helped her by making 4 beds and she left me 4 rooms that needed everything. So for my first 3 hours of work I've been rushing back and forth with the laundry because since no one did it the day before I didn't have any clean sheets to make the beds. So again the same 3 rooms were carded for no rental and there they sit until tomorrow. Thank god I have two days off starting tomorrow and Thursday!

Stat Holiday Pay
When I saw the schedule for work and realized that I was only supposed to work 7 hours on the stat (Aug 1st) I made sure to ask my boss if I could either work 9-5 or 10-6 instead of 10-5? Initially he said that we would have to see how things go and then when the time came he would let me know. Well this weekend, everyday we had a full house at the motel. And each only 10/15 out of the 35 were stays, the rest were check-outs meaning that all of those rooms had to be remade and ready to go for the next day. Friday wasn't so bad, Saturday was o.k. Sunday was good and then when it came to Monday....
He had me come in at 9! When I got to work I definitely wasn't prepared for the amount of work that I alone was going to have to perform. I started of doing the laundry and soon was overcome with heaps and heaps of sheets, blankets and towels. After I got the laundry started I was asked to go and help the housekeepers. For them I made their beds and vacuumed out all of their rooms. Still keeping an eye on the laundry and front desk when possible. As the day progressed our manager bought us some iced coffee's from Starbucks and for lunch he bought us pizza! That was a definite surprise. It worked out that our head housekeeper who had rooms 102-115 and 201-203 left at 3 and our other housekeeper that had 204-218 left at 4. Well I was helping the second housekeeper we finished all of the rooms and after which I went along and vacuumed. As for the lead housekeeper, when I was asked to go and see if one of her rooms were ready to be rented, I was surprised to find that 3 of her rooms 108, 106, and 105 weren't even started. They had been stripped but didn't have any sheets done or towels. I didn't have the time and those rooms had to be carded for no rental. Then as I was looking around the upstairs at her 201-203 none of those rooms were made either. Since they were just a single double bed I quickly did them up and after doing a load of towels added them to the rooms as well. After which I went back to the laundry room and worked in there trying to make a dent in the pile but since I only had from 4-5 all I did was fold a full load of towels and sheets.
I didn't mind doing the work today because it was a stat and I was making $15, but when your boss says to you that he wants you to be in 3 places at once, the front desk, the laundry room and helping the housekeepers,
Doesn't that seem wrong? I'm in the process of asking for a raise and feel that I definitely deserve it but I have to figure out when the perfect time is to ask him for it.
And the worst part is that I know when I get to work tomorrow, the laundry is going to be sitting there for me to do.

Survived my presentation!
I did my presentation and survived it. When I was done the teacher said that he couldn't tell that I was nervous. It went over well and I got everything across that I needed to. Soon I will have the link and the people that I send the link to will be able to view it!
Presentation Day!
Woke up early today and had a shower. I put on my Oscar the Grouch shirt that says "litter makes me bitter" to ad that extra touch to my presentation. I'm as ready as I'll ever be and I'm sure that it really won't be that bad anyhow. Class starts at 10:30 so I still have another half hour to prep and stress...
We are being recorder for class and it's being used as a part of my initiative project so there fore it is being routed through YouTube. We had the choice of A-having it just used for out project, B- having it be on YouTube but only the people with the link can view it, or C-having it be public on the web. I'm not ready to be a star on Youtube so I opted for having the people with the link be able to view it.
I'll put it up after class, that way you can give me feedback and let me know what you think!

I forgot to say...
A manager from a hotel phoned me and offered me a Front Desk position at his place of employment. I'm really excited and have an interview tomorrow. I want to see what happens and how other hotel/motel managers view my resume, knowledge and skills! I'm just testing the waters with the interview. I want to be in the know and see: how much are other places paying, what does the job intale and most of all how easy I would get hired.
I mean don't get me wrong, I love where I work.
BUT,
Honestly I want to be worked equally and payed what I'm worth.
Where I am now I do everything you can think of and make the same wage as someone who has been here a week. I would think that working for an employer for over 6 months would matter.
The one thing that I would make sure of it I owned a business was that they recycled, and that they treated every employee equally. When employee's get treated different and have the same job title but not the same duties it startes to make one start to question there management and also begin to look for another job.
That my rant for today. Big day tomorrow in English, I'm doing my "Recycling 101" project!!
Hope I break a leg!

Another Day
Woke up this morning worrying about the Oral Presentaion that I was supposed to do today in English class on Recycling 101. Got upto the university as fast as I could so that I could finish tweeking my project. In the end when class started I was happy with the material I had and realized from the list of names that I didn't have to present until 8 or 9th spot. Out of 12. That made me relax a little more and after the presentations started rolling we ended up having to push three presentations until tomorrow.
Mine included.
So I have another day to perfect it even more and see if I can't add anything that will seperate it from the bunch!
Switching gears now,
Also I've talked in previous blogs about how I'm recycling at work...
And I would have to say that overall I'm not very happy with the amout of help I'm getting from the employee's here. I understand that it oviousally isn't something that any of them desire to do but I thought because I asked that maybe they would try a little. Well everyday when I come to work I try to be open minded and not negative but as soon as I look in the waste basket under the office desk the first thing I notice is the paper that has been thrown out. I mean how much easier can I make it for them, the recycling container is right beside the garbage, all they have to do it throw it to the right instead of the left...
The situation fustrates me but it's my project and I will continue to do it myself. The satisfaction of even making the tiniest indent makes me want to keep going.
My presentaion is tomorrow as soon as I get to class. There is one person before me, and then I'm up! I'm kinda nervious but at the same time excited to get my recycling issue across. Hopefully I'll create the urge for even one or two students to make a small change in what they throw out.

HELP
I work a 40 hr week and it seems to be making me think a great deal of do I want to remain working for this employeer at this job. I have been working here since the beginning of Feburary and from then to now I am dealing with my daily load being more than I can handle for example my current duties include:
1. Front Desk
2. Billing
3. Sales
4. Bookkeeping
5. Housekeeping
6. Yard Maintance
7. Laundry
All of which are my duties and ONLY my duties. It seems I am the one having to carry the load of this whole motel on my sholders, including the worry and wear and tare. Along with all of these duties comes the responsibality of the entire motel falling again on my sholders. And I honestly dont know what I'm supposed to do to change the situation? I'm being over worked and honestly under paid.

What a Day!
Went onto the Moodle website and looked at my mark for my first assignment "Bad News Letter" and realized that i got 72% for my final grade! That is amazing for me as usually I just pass English with a C-. This class is showing me that i am capable of working hard and there for recieving great marks. I haven't gone to registrations yet to try and change over all of my September classes to the ones that I want. Hopefully everything will work out for the best.
I have started my initative project for English as well, I'm starting a recycling project at my work and hope that with one small change I will be creating a small imprint on the earth. I still have to go over the proposal with my boss but considering that I'm doing it all and for free.. How can he say no?
I'll be showing him my proposal today so I'll be writing back soon to let you all know his response.

What A Crazy Week
I signed up for the Accounting Tech program and got accepted. It begins Sept 2011, this up and coming September. The one thing that I DIDN'T know about this program is that the Registrars office picks your classes. AAAHHHHHH
I have been going along having all of my dots lined up to a tee and then this is the first bump in the road.
I phoned and talked with the right person and hopefully I'll be able to work my classes so that I can still have a personal life and work part-time all at the same time! I really wouldn't mind someone else picking me classes if they we set up so that I went from8:30 a.m. until sometime in the afternoon. But the way its set up now I'm all over the board and someday's don't start until 11:30a.m.
Plus,
That was my reason for summer classes, to knock off 2 out of my 5 for fall.
So as of right now I'm a little upset but I'm hoping that by the end of this week everything will be sorted out.

How my day is layed out
My day usually starts at 7:15 a.m. when my mom gets home from work and I hear her come through the door. I'm not used to having late classes and would usually be out the door driving to school at 7:40 a.m. but since my class doesn't start until 10:30 I try, really try to sleep in until 9:00. I wake up get my lunch ready and watch a little bit of T.V. As 10:00 rolls around I leave my house out in Westsyde and comute the 15/20 minutes it takes for me to get to T.R.U. When I get there I have to unwantingly pay the $3.00 for parking, park and walk upto my class, English 129. My class gets out a 1:00 p.m. and that gives me an hour before I have to be a work. I usually stop to get something to eat and bide my time. Around 1:45p.m. I head out to Valleyview and come to work at the Kings Motor Inn as their Front Desk Attendant. Being that my shift is 8 hrs I'm here until 10:00 p.m. When I leave work it takes me another 15/20 minutes to get back to Westsyde. I get home have a little snack while reading until about 11:00p.m. I go to bed and then I do it all over the next day! The one great thing about taking summer classes (yes I said great thing) is that when the Fall semester starts I'll already have 2 out of my 5 classes taken care of, meaning that I can
a- either pull 2 classes out of my winter semester
b- pull 1 class out of my winter semester
c- pull no classes out of my winter semester and just take a 3 course load It still gives you full-time status and you have to freedom to work part-time and not be going crazy with an overload of homework. I think that I am going to pull out 1 class from my winter semester and see how that goes.
Because in September I start my Accounting Tech program and I want to have everything under control and go through the semester enjoying what I'm taking, because I know that if I took 5 classes I would hate every minute I was at T.R.U. and who wants that. Anyways right now the pace that I'm at seems to be working. I attend university, work regularly and see my family often. Hopefully if I've planned it out right September on should be the same??? Hopefully...

A Little About Me!
First I'll start of with the basics, my name is Megan and I am a 27 year old full-time female university student. I live at home with my mom and step-dad (free rent) and am working a full-time job. My hole purpose for starting this blog is to be able to write about my strides and struggles through out my year. I've been in university taking unclassifed courses since 2009. On June 10th I graduated with my grade 12 diploma! When I was working on my diploma I wasn't working 40hrs/wk. Now I've jumped in with both feet, I'm taking summer classes(not as easy as it sounds) and am working as I said 40hrs/wk. So thats what my blog is going to be about, my 1st year dealing with academic classes and having to juggle work and personal life all at the sametime.
